The Five Springs
Five springs flow on this land all year.
The short answer
The Springs are five year-round springs on the nearly 500 acres of Mariposa Highlands in Coulterville, CA. In dry foothill country they keep pockets of green all year, feed small ponds, and draw deer, birds, and our Highland cattle. A seasonal creek runs in wet months, usually winter and spring. You can walk to the springs on our private trails for free. Please treat the water as wild: do not drink it untreated.

Insider tips from the family
- 01
Do not drink the water
Even clear spring water can carry germs like Giardia. If you must use it, boil, filter, or disinfect it first. Bring water from your Airstream.
- 02
Watch for rattlesnakes
Snakes like water and shade too. Watch where you step and give any snake plenty of room.
- 03
Go in spring
From about March to May, the creek may be running and wildflowers are out.
- 04
Leave it as you found it
Please do not wade in, dam, or move rocks at the springs. The cattle and wildlife depend on them.
